Measuring the daylight and solar energy properties of glazing

Peter A. van Nijnatten, TNO Science & Industry

This paper gives an update on stateof-the-art techniques for the optical characterization of architectural and automotive glazing products. It discusses the use of spectrophotometers, accessories and reference materials for so-called routine measurements in quality control and for measuring glazing specifications according to international standards as EN410 and ISO 9050. Also tools for more complex measurements are discussed, like measuring diffuse reflecting and transmitting samples, patterned samples and measuring optical properties at oblique incidence.
