Raman spectroscopy, employing a point-and-shoot hand-held probe provides an effective means to recognize glass-laminating polymers by polymer type, manufacturer and product number. The use of a confocal objective extends this form of analysis to identify polymer layers embedded in glass laminates. Focusing on the substrate, we show that Raman spectroscopy distinguishes glass compositions and the phase structure of metal-oxide ceramics.
