Automatic inspection has been used for many
years on automotive glass lines to achieve the
quality required by processors. However, the
lower value of architectural glass has made
automatic inspection less economically attractive
for architectural float glass suppliers.
This paper describes a breakthrough: a new
laser-based technology which has produced both
an increase in performance and a reduction in
cost. This presents the architectural float glass
supplier with new opportunities to improve quality
and at the same time reduce costs. Included is a
brief discussion of the technology, its advantages
over competing techniques, and how a system is
installed and used to best effect on an
architectural float line.
