Manufacturing the Coloured Borosilicate Glass from the Egyptian Materials

Colored flat glass is considered to be one of the important products, which are imported to Egypt. Despite of the ancient history and know-how in the glass industry, the local Egyptian industry can’t produce enough colored glass to satisfy the market needs. In Egypt glass is regarded as very demanding and important material in architecture, designs and decoration. From this end, the aim of the research was to use Egyptian raw materials to produce transparent flat glass, which was able to melt at lower melting point than normal glass. It was found to be possible by adding Boron Oxide to the mixture.
