A finite element model has been developed using ABAQUS software programme to predict the deformation of laminated glass systems under different types of load and/or different
boundary conditions. For different conditions the predicted values of the deformation have been compared to experimental data. This study shows that the degree of correlation depends on the rheological model which was used. Using in-house developed Saflex visco-elastic model, the effect of temperature on a wind load deflection for different types of interlayers has been studied. The FEM also allows calculating the laminated glass strength factor. It was demonstrated that the latter depends on the temperature, the duration of load, the viscoelastic properties and relative thickness of the interlayer. This has allowed comparing the bending performance of stiffer PVB to standard PVB and other Non-PVB interlayers at similar thickness.
