Numerical modeling of coercible gas natural convection for IGU thermalphysic behavior analysis

Stanislav A. Chesnokov, Senior lecturer and Boris I. Krasnopolskiy, Post-graduate student, Department of Applied Mathematics, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (State University) & Alexander G. Chesnokov, Head of the standardization and testing departm

We had the following aims as object of our research:
- Numerical modeling of IGU behavior taking into account main heat transfer mechanisms, estimation of every mechanism contribution in heat distribution;
- Evaluation of applicability domain for “old” standard techniques;
- Investigation of influence for complex effects, known in practice but not shown in previous IGU models, onto glass filler structure and its thermalphysic properties.
Our main results:
- New physical model of IGU was formalized;
- Optimized and complex algorithm of numerical solving was developed;
- Results of calculations were compared with other models;
- In special case we constructed analytical solution of the problem;
- In the different cases we compared fast calculations according to standards and very slow calculations in our model taking into account various combinations of heat transfer ways;
- Some results were obtained concerning applicability domain of the standards techniques;
- Corrected fast method for IGU heat resistance properties calculation was proposed;
- Distribution of heat resistance along IGU altitude subject to spacer width was obtained, some graphs of temperature against altitude were plotted, and edge freezing effect was illustrated;
- And we provide some result about dependence of heat transfer from outer temperature for various IGU types including low-e.
