Numerical Modeling of Shaping and Strengthening of Glass Sheets for Automotive and Buildings

The paper presents the power of numerical simulation of the glass bending and tempering processes in managing shape and stresses of glass. In the cases presented, a glass sheet lays on a support frame and thermally treated to let deform by its weight. A flat glass or a bended glass will be tempered to have large compression stress on the surface. The modeling results demonstrate the detailed glass deforming and stress generation procedure and the temperature and stress distribution in the glass during the processes.
