The Future of Glass in the Middle East

Glass was first discovered in the Middle
East many moons ago. It is therefore perhaps
surprising to think that, until very recently, the
level and nature of local activity in glass was very
limited. Today, the Glass Industry of the region is
extremely diversified, with numerous plants that
would be the envy of production managers,
salesmen and owners in the ‘more developed’
parts of the globe. The range of products that are
now manufactured and processed locally is truly
diversified and most would be surprised at the
degree of sophistication of technology employed
and of the end - products themselves.
Today, the regional industry is fast
approaching full self-sufficiency and the rest of
the world will soon find that the region, which until
recently, imported the vast majority of its glass
requirements, will be significantly turning the
tables and will present an array of products for
effective export.
