Experimental analysis of point fixings

Andreas Haese, Universität der Bundeswehr

The calculation and static proof of point fixings can be rather extensive due to the complex geometries and the different materials. Therefore the proof is often done by testing. Up to now the experimental testing of point fixings was mostly limited to the determination of the load carrying capacity. But this extreme value does not give any data about the condition of the point fixing under this load. The numerous tests done in our laboratory in the recent years showed that the maximum load under the condition of acceptable deformations is far below the load carrying capacity. To avoid an excess of tolerable deformations a limit of serviceability must be found. The German draft standard DIN 18008-3 provides in its annex C one possible way to find this limit value.
